Group working with United Way

The Brandon Team Cares

For the 14th consecutive year, the Brandon United Way team participated in the Day of Caring to support the agencies of United Way of Horry County. The team worked together to clean, paint, organize or work in other areas as needed. Day of Caring is sponsored by United Way of Horry County as a kickoff for their annual fundraising campaign.

Businesses that support United Way are given the opportunity to do “hands on” projects with the agencies they are helping. Over the past 13 years, the Brandon Team has work hard, sweating under the Carolina sun, cleaning dirty buildings that were being converted to working space for nonprofits.

Perhaps the most memorable Day of Caring was Sept. 11, 2001.

The Brandon team of five was on their hands and knees digging up the rocks for a planned soccer field when suddenly planes started descending toward the Myrtle Beach Jetport, actually flying low over their heads. Shortly they received the tragic news of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C. All other years, however, have been very rewarding, – some humorous like when the girls had to “slay” a giant spider. (Yes, it can be done with a broom.)

Whether mopping floors, planting shrubbery, painting walls or cleaning windows, at the end of the day, the whole team has smiles on their faces because they have give back to this great community in which we live.

Do you have special memories from Day of Caring that you would like to share?

Go Team Brandon – and to all the others who give so unselfishly!
